چکیده

We develop a phase-eld model for the solidiication of a pure material that includes convection in the liquid phase. The model permits the interface to have an anisotropic surface energy, and allows a quasi-incompressible thermodynamic description in which the densities in the solid and liquid phases may each be uniform. The solid phase is modeled as an extremely viscous liquid, and the formalism of irreversible thermodynamics is employed to derive the governing equations. We investigate the behavior of our model in two important simple situations corresponding to the solidiication of a planar interface at constant velocity: density change ow and a shear ow. In the former case we obtain a non-equilibrium form of the Clausius-Clapeyron equation and investigate its behavior by both a direct numerical integration of the governing equations, and an asymptotic analysis corresponding to a small density diierence between the two phases. In the case of a parallel shear ow we are able to obtain an exact solution which allows us to investigate its behavior in the sharp interface limit, and for large values of the viscosity ratio.

Numerical Simulation of Dendritic Solidi cation Using a Phase Field Model

Solidi cation of a pure material from its undercooled melt is considered, taking into account e ects of surface tension, kinetic undercooling and anisotropy. The resulting crystals exhibit complicated dendritic shapes. To avoid explicit tracking of the solid-liquid interfaces a phase eld model is employed. A di use interface of arti cial width is introduced and the solidi cation is modeled by a...

Within the effective-field theory with correlations (EFT), a transverse random field spin-1 Ising model on the simple cubic (z=6) lattice is studied. The phase diagrams, the behavior of critical points, transverse magnetization,  internal energy, magnetic specific heat are obtained numerically and discussed for different values of p the concentration of the random transverse field.

Analysis of a phase-field model for solidification in the limit of vanishing undercooling

Phaseeld models are attractive for numerical simulation of solidi cation. The derivation ensures that moving boundaries in the sharp interface formulation are replaced by thin regions of width given implicitly by the solution. The need to explicitly track the location of geometrically complex solid-liquid interfaces is eliminated. The sharp interface problem is formally recovered as the di use ...
